Flexible, mobile and therefore in an enormous dimension - the new MHPC fast charging station contains over 1.9 megawatt hours of energy and is mounted on a roadworthy truck trailer. This allows ten electric vehicles to be charged simultaneously and several times in succession, each with up to 320 kilowatts. In total, a trailer has an impressive 3.2 megawatts of charging power. If all charging points are used at the same time, this corresponds to the average power of 3,200 single-family homes! For recharging with 80 to a maximum of 500 kilowatts, the MHPC only requires a power connection to the low voltage grid.

The mobile concept enables quick assembly and disassembly directly at the place of use throughout Europe. It offers a power and energy supply on places where an expansion of the charging infrastructure is not possible or economically not viable due to temporary requirements. Seven MHPC systems have already been successfully put into operation at the Barcelona race track at the in October 2019.

We at ADS-TEC Energy are especially proud that the project with seven trailers could be realised in only one year, from the idea to the successful launch. The requirements on capacity and power were implemented in the smallest possible space, with limited weight and under all applicable rules and standards for roadworthy trucks limited to 40 tons.

The enormous performance is based on several essential reasons:

• Sophisticated electrical and control engineering

The system is fully functional both in the south at warm temperatures and in the far north at sub-zero temperatures. The loading trucks have already proven themselves successfully at both extreme locations.

ADS-TEC Energy's technical and logistical all-round carefree service supports the charging trucks all over Europe and ensures a smooth operation. In permanent connection to the headquarters via our cloud, all systems can be monitored and controlled remotely.

Battery systems on truck trailers are on the move a lot and have to be optimised to withstand the dynamic forces during driving and braking. The battery racks were newly developed for this purpose and equipped with a special structure to absorb the forces according to the driving dynamics.

The charging trucks enable larger fleets of vehicles to recharge in a short time even at limited or non-existent mains grid connections. If there is a rapidly growing field of electric vehicles in the coming years, then flexibly deployable fast charging services in completely new application areas will be required. These can be:

• Temporary charging station
• Driving events of e-vehicles
• Marketing or press events
• Highly frequented travel routes
• Charging
• Possibility at events such as festivals, trade fairs and sporting events

The MHPC system is recharged mainly during rest periods. If a grid connection is available at the place of use, it can also be used in parallel with its available power. The loading truck is equipped with open interfaces. This allows ADS-TEC Energy also to implement individual projects and customer-specific solutions.
